The following information on Mt. Elliott cemetery was researched and compiled by Fern Freeman in preparation for a cemetery stroll July 12, 1981 sponsored by the Detroit Historical Society: Olivier Drouillard "Invented and received a patent for an apparatus for raising sunken vessels. In 1867 the invention was controlled by Inventors & Mechanics Manufacturing Co., which was negotiating with the Navy Dept. at Washington for raising the monitor Keokuk sunk in Charleston harbor & for other vessels sunk during the rebellion. The cost of this Invention was $35.000."
